Shatter The Ceiling launches new internship grant

Twenty Ten Talent - Shatter The Ceiling

Do you want to pursue an internship but are worried about how you will afford it? You’re not alone. Shatter The Ceiling wants to help and will award a $1,000 grant to a woman of color, to offset the cost of housing, airfare, or other incidental expenses resulting from an unpaid or underpaid internship.

Last summer, Shatter The Ceiling founder Alexis Mood interned at one of the top advertising agencies in New York and the experience proved to be game changing, both personally and professionally. Unfortunately however, low pay and lack of supplemental resources can often restrict access to the valuable career opportunities and insights an internship provides.

“The grant is primarily intended for those interning in fields that notoriously underpay their interns, such as advertising, education, etc,” says Alexis Mood. “I think Viola Davis said it best in her Emmy speech, the only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. That’s what Shatter the Ceiling is designed to do, to provide opportunities for women of color to be able to take internships, grow professionally, and experience something they wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.“

Shatter The Ceiling is currently accepting applications from now until April 4, 2016.
